Background
Born in Kyoto Prefecture in 1974. Has published four poetry collections:
Dobutsu no Shufuku (Animal restoration) (Kamakura: Minato no Hito, 2019), which received Museum of Contemporary Japanese Poetry, Tanka and Haiku prize in poetry category;
an other mimicry (Tokyo: Shoshi Yamada, 2013), which received Hanatsubaki Prize;
Pho to n, (Japanese—Tokyo: Shichosha, 2007; English—Aberdeen: Gean Tree Press, 2012);
and Otozureru Koe (Visitor Voice) (Tokyo: Shoshi Yamada, 2005), which received Rekitei Shin’ei Prize.
Participated in 2014 Seoul International Writers’ Festival and 2017 Romania Poetry Festival as invited guest poet. Has produced private poetry magazine Canalis since 2007 and has participated in reading-performance unit Higgaion Selah since 2019. Accommodates frequent requests from artists for poetry and prose for inclusion in exhibition catalogs and other publications. Produced introduction to Kyoto’s Western-style architecture, Kyoto no Yokan (Kyoto: Seigensha, 2004), with photographer Sakane Yuki.
